According to Homian News, today, Sunday, February 26, the plan to freely sell hookahs in coffee shops and hookahs was approved in the open court of the Islamic Consultative Assembly. A member of the Assembly stated that the reason for liberalizing hookah activities is to create employment for young people, especially academics, who can create a low-cost source of income for themselves, given the current unemployment situation.
The plan to liberalize hookah sales is being approved while the Secretary General of the Anti-Tobacco Society, referring to the exclusion of coffee shops from public places and hookahs in these places, said: The Assembly should not ignore youth addiction.
Mohammad Reza Masjedi said: The Ministry of Health is obliged to pursue the ban on hookah activities. Given that the tobacco used in these places is questionable
He continued: More than 300 samples of tobacco were tested by the Ministry of Health, in which cases of the presence of psychotropic and addictive substances such as methamphetamine were found.
According to Homian News, hookah sales are being allowed while, in addition to the risks of lung cancer and health issues, some hookah sales centers are freely providing the ground for addiction by adding narcotics and psychotropic substances such as methamphetamine and heroin to their tobacco and offering it to young people. And many young people fall into the mire of methamphetamine and heroin addiction after a few months of visiting hookah shops.
